Creating Business Cards for Real Estate Business That Work!
If you don't have business cards then you are
not in business. That is as simple as I can put it. You should have at least
100 cards with yourself at all times. Many businesses today offer business card
bulletin boards where you can place your card. Its FREE advertising and you're a
fool if you don't participate. Everywhere you go you will run into people so
consider this fact:
“95%
of all Americans either:
A. Plan to buy or sell a piece of Real Estate in the next 7 years, or
B. Know someone who plans to buy or sell
a piece of Real Estate in the
next 7 years.”
That fact alone is reason enough to make sure you
always have your card available. We will go over designing your card here in a bit,
but for now I just want to push the importance of having them, carrying them
with you, and passing them out like they are candy.
I will post an example of the
business card here but most importantly you should note that it is your first
impression of your real estate investing business to your clients (You know what
they say about first impressions).
I usually get my business cards from iPrint.com or Printing for Less
, a very reliable and professional way to get your business
cards. In addition to business cards you need to have a “Mantra” or a 10 second commercial that you memorize
to tell people when you hand out your cards.
Mine goes something like
this. “Hello I'm a real estate
investor, I am interested in most any house in the Gwinnett
County area and
I am more than happy to give you an offer on your property, just
give me a call and I will be glad to talk to you and help you anyway I
can” I then hand them the card and get a
commitment from them to contact me.
If your “Mantra” sounds good and your card looks the part I
can promise you this. Your business card will not get thrown away. The seller
may not call you right away but if you have done it right that card will stay on
their nightstand, or in the purse/wallet for another day.
It is also important to have two sided business cards. Have your contact
information on one side of the card and a short description of what you do.
This is also a great way to get bird-dogs. You can put everything on the back,
including what you do and then you should also add something like
“$500 finding fee paid to those who refer deals”. That one line right there
will grow your business quicker.
The
whole idea with business cards is to help your business grow through word of
mouth. It works. If you are able to shock someone by what you do and have tons
of enthusiasm they will pass the cards on. I know I have done exactly that many
times and it has actually shaped the way in which I do business today.
I have often gotten calls/leads
where the seller heard about me from a friend. They were
talking about how they needed to sell their
house and their friend remembered
they still had my card and gave it to them. Referrals can be some of your most
powerful
leads
that you will get and the most profitable as well.
One more tip, any employee or associate of yours should be given several
of your cards to pass out and have to give to friends. REFFERALS ARE INVALUABLE TO THIS
BUSINESS.
Now onto card design, “KEEP YOUR MESSAGE SIMPLE” and always remember when designing your card (WII.FM)
“What's in it for me ?” The prospective seller does not care about you. They only
want to know what you can do for them.
Keep your message revolving around that
and you'll do fine. Make sure that your phone number and your website
are stated clearly in the card.
Here is a sample of what a 'We Buy Houses card' should look
like. Give
the client a reason to keep the card. Keep your mantra and your card similar in
nature, make it so that the client has a visual of having met you and made the
mental attachment of that to your card.
Business
card content has never really changed so keep your consistent with the standards
that are out there. Make your message unforgettable and then give them your
card. One last thing I am a huge fan of spending the extra money and going for a
high gloss 2 sided card.
Many
people when they get started make them on their computer and cut or punch them
out. The credibility they have lost is 1000 times more than the money they would
make with a really nice high gloss card. Get a good
slightly heavier card stock. This does 2 things. First it makes
them stand out in a pile of business cards, and it won't let it fold or "wrinkle" in
someone's pocket.
I am not sure why but realtors
feel the need to place their pictures on their personal cards. What other
industry really does this as much as the realtor arena? I mean when you get a
card 99% of the time the real professional cards from people have no photo.
Further, the photos on cards that I have received, well let's just say they are
not a real representation of the person themselves. My thoughts, NO
PICTURE
.
P.S. Don’t buy a box of 500, buy a box of at least 2500, you will need
them if you are serious about being in this business in the long run and the
cost per card is cheaper.
